Fort Ticonderoga - 250th Anniversary of the Battle of Carillon

Unit Basics

French & Indian War battle reenactment

Identification

Unit commanders will issue the members of their unit some kind of ID bearing the member's name, unit and commander"s name. This will enable event staff and safety officers to identify who belongs to an invited unit and who does not. Such IDs would be non-transferable. It is suggested that they not be issued until members are about to leave for the event.

Safety

All participants should familiarize themselves with Fort Ticonderoga's Guidelines for Reenactors and Sutlers (which may be read or downloaded on this website). The Guidelines are rules, despite the title, and cover basic procedures as well as safety. Follow them and everyone will have a good time.

Portrayals

All participating military units must bear the name of a unit that served in North America during the period 1755-1764. Members of that unit must be dressed, armed and equipped accurately for service in that unit.

Indian portrayals must be correct for Eastern Woodlands peoples of the mid-eighteenth century.

Civilian portrayals must be correct for mid-eighteenth century North America and must be appropriate for someone living at or visiting a frontier military post. Civilians may not wear Scottish Highland dress. Jacobite clothing or insignia of any kind is specifically prohibited.

Scottish portrayals are restricted to the Highland units that served with the British Army in North America during the period 1755-1764.

Authenticity

Fort Ticonderoga encourages all participants to clothe and equipment themselves as authentically as possible. Fort staff will not act as arbiters in unit debates at the "stitches per inch" level, but theirs will be the final word (at this event) in all cases of obvious historical inaccuracy.

Music

All musicians will be subject to the orders of their army commanders, who will specify the hours and places to which their beating and playing will be restricted. The event coordinator will personally execute the first reenactor piper he hears playing "Scotland the Brave" or "Amazing Grace."

Dogs

Participants are not encouraged to bring dogs to Fort Ticonderoga events, but, if they have to, we request that the dog remain on a leash or line of some kind at all times. Under no circumstances may dogs be brought into the Fort. Owner"s are expected to clean up all dog-related messes. Those who want to board their pet locally should call the Ticonderoga Animal Hospital, James A. Mack, VMD, (518) 585-6232.
